  • Take the Mass Pike (I-90) westbound
  • Leave the Mass Pike at Exit 6 in Chicopee
  • Take I-291 South toward Springfield
  • Take I-91 South toward Hartford, Connecticut
  • Exit I-91 onto Route 20 (toward Bradley International Airport)
  • Continue on Route 20 to West Granby
  • Turn left onto Route 219
  • Turn left onto Route 179 for 100 yards
  • Continue South on Route 219
  • Bear right onto Route 318 crossing the Saville Dam for a beautiful view of the Barkhamsted Reservoir
  • Continue on Route 318 for app. 1.66 miles
  • Turn left onto Route 181 for app. .7 miles
  • Turn right onto Route 318 for .7 miles toward Winsted
  • Turn right onto Route 44

This route takes you via Waterbury, which is further in miles than traveling via Route 22 [see below], but is on limited access highways until the final 10 miles.
  • Take the West Side Highway (Route 9A) North until it becomes the Saw Mill River Parkway North
  • Merge onto I-684 North
  • Take I-84 East toward Danbury and Waterbury
  • Take Route 8 North at Waterbury (LEFT exit)
  • When Route 8 ends as an expressway in Winsted, turn right onto Route 44
  • Continue on Route 44 for approximately 10 miles to Norfolk

  • Go North on Route 9 for approximately 30 miles
  • At exit 28, take 72 West (you will be on I-84 briefly, don't despair, continue to follow 72 West)
  • After 4.8 miles take Exit 1 onto 177 North (right at end of ramp)
  • After 5.5 miles you will cross the Farmington River over a green bridge
  • In .2 miles at a large intersection follow Route 4 West (a diagonal left turn at the eleven o'clock position)
  • After 2.5 miles Route 4 goes off to the left, you want to stay straight on 179 North
  • Keep following 179; the road jogs first right, then left.
  • After 3.7 miles at a traffic light turn left onto Route 44 West
  • Continue on 44 into Norfolk
