Augustus P. Curtiss House Norfolk, Connecticut
Exclusive: $850,000
In the early 1880’s
Augustus P. Curtiss, general store proprietor and Norfolk selectman, desired a
wife. As was customary in the day, he ordered his wife from Germany by mail. Then, in 1884 he
built this handsome Colonial Revival from the finest
materials his store had to offer as a welcome and a wedding present to her.
The 8’10” ceilings, unusually large windows with original wavy glass, fir
floors, thick doors with brass hinges & knobs, chestnut stairs, and
fantastic original radiators are now incorporated into the very intelligent renovation recently completed by two talented young Harvard architecture graduates.
